Have you ever watched Disney's Ratatouille? Wouldn't you just love to see it come to life on broadway? If yes, then you are in luck. The last few months of 2020, hundreds of creators from TikTok were hard at work trying to pull off the impossible: a virtual broadway musical.
If you have never seen the inspiring food-filled movie that is Ratatouille, then listen closely. The movie surrounds the adventure of a rat named Remy, though he's not like the others. Remy dreams to be a world-renowned chef! As he navigates Paris by himself, he ultimately finds an amateur chef, Linguini, at the restaurant Gusteau's. Remy sits on the chef's head, while inside the chef hat, and pulls his hair to control Linguini's movements in the kitchen. Through crazy adventures, Remy and Linguini become the best cooking buddies.
With song after song, scene after scene, the TikTok musical has grown to an unbelievable level. Stars like Tituss Burgess, Kevin Chamberlin, Adam Lambert, and many more joined efforts to perform a virtual Ratatouille musical on January 1st. Some of the original producers of the TikTok content were involved as well! Not only did these young "producers" create songs from home, but the cover art for the "playbill" was digitally created by a TikTok user. Wild, right?
After its first night only, Ratatouille:The TikTok Musical raised more than $1 million by selling 160,000 virtual tickets. The money will directly benefit The Actors Fund, a service that helps theater professionals such as actors, dancers, lighting designers, and more. Especially during a pandemic when people should not congregate, theater events are nearly forbidden at this time. The $1 million will be an essential helping hand for theater workers across the United States.
